Music, Opera.

Germany and The Netherlands provided particularly fertile ground for new operas. Commissioned by Brussels' Th��tre de la Monnaie, Peter Schat's Symposium--based on the death of Tchaikovsky and the controversial theory that he committed suicide to avoid exposure as a homosexual--was premiered by the Netherlands Opera. The Holland Festival also saw the first performances
